BBM Sport raced at Red Bull ring in Austria last weekend in Masters Endurance Legends, running Steve Tandy in his Peugeot LMP1 90X chassis #9.
3 practice sessions, 2 qualifying sessions and 2 races were completed, all with 100% reliability. Practice focused on optimising chassis setup, confirmation of race strategies and pace.
Qualifying was contested, with the 6 LMP1 entries including chassis from Lola, Zytek and Peugeot battling for pole, across 2 sessions. Peugeot 90X #9 and Steve were locked in a battle with the Lola of Michel Frey for pole, almost 1sec clear of the rest of the field and the only cars into the 1 minute 23 sec mark. Steve just missed pole by 1/10 sec on the aggregate of the two sessions, despite being significantly faster than the Lola is session 2.
Race 1 saw Steve inherit pole after the Lola of Frey had an issue, and he lead from the Zytek of Freiser up to the pit stop window. BBM Sport delivered an efficient stop for Steve, and the Zytek ran in to issues on its in lap which let Steve go on to win the race by almost 1min, achieving fastest lap with 1.2 sec margin to the rest of the field, with a flawless performance. Race 2 saw Steve and the Peugeot 90X once again dominate, a faultless performance from car, driver and team. The Zytek of Freiser was again the closest competitor, but Steve came home with a 25 sec lead, and yet another fastest lap by 1 second margin.
Well done to Steve Tandy for the great double, assisted by the Peugeot 90X and BBM Sport.
